Video Dogs back-pays workers over $4800!

Video Dogs in Carlton has been forced to back pay over $4800 to its workers after UNITE revealed that the shop was paying young workers with DVD rental instead of wages.

After a full investigation by the Workplace Ombudsman, Video Dogs owner John Mallalieu has now been forced to stop his dodgy employment practices.

A total of six employees who were paid with DVD rental have now been paid nearly $500. A number of other employees have also been back-paid more than $4300.

The Workplace Ombudsman has decided not to prosecute the store this time, but has warned that they have been put on notice. UNITE is also continuing to monitor the situation.

UNITE Secretary Anthony Main said “It seems the Ombudsman’s investigation has proved all of UNITE’s allegations. We are happy that all of the workers have now been back-paid accordingly.”

“It’s unfortunate that the Ombudsman has accepted ignorance as an excuse on this occasion, we would have liked to see a prosecution.”

“Nevertheless this should serve as a warning to all dodgy bosses in retail” Main said.
